Omnia Expansion Project

The practice has grown in size over the last 3 years from 7200 to 10500 patients and this growth appears to be continuing steadily. We believe that this is related to the wide range of services that are available to our patients, offering the choices in health care to meets their needs and a culture of embracing change. We feel that the future demands of locality commissioning present challenges and opportunities that are firmly in the interests of our patients.

The extra demand on space due to the expansion in clinical activity has left the existing building that seemed so spacious in 1996, too small for our current and future needs. We are addressing this by planning a major building expansion on the land adjacent to our practice with the building work due to commence in spring 2007. The Partnership owns the current building and the new building and land purchase will also be supported by a GPFC Loan agreement.

The new building will give us much extended clinical and non clinical areas with an education facility upstairs for the training of doctors, nurses and other related health care groups.

PCT staff will occupy parts of the first floor accommodation where they will also undertake some clinical activity. They will also have some access to clinical space on the ground floor. The scheme includes space for a pharmacy operating under a 100 hour per week License.

Our aim is to continue to strive to be a dynamic organisation that is flexible and able to respond to and influence the changes in primary health care provision that will inevitably continue for the foreseeable future. This is a forward looking practice with a vision of the future which involves firmly embracing the changing NHS in the interest of enhanced patient care.

We received planning permission from Birmingham City Council for a two-story extension, new entrance and additional parking and the site had now been cleared of the old hospital building by a demolition contractor. The main building contract is in the process of being appointed and the Architect and design team at Pinnegar Hayward hope that the new building will start on site at the end of September. We shall keep patients updated about theprogress of the new building construction in reception
