New Partners at Omnia

Sunday 27th of April 2008

We were delighted to welcome Dr Kerry Boyle and Dr Haroon Rashid to the partnership on 1 April this year. Kerry qualified in Leeds and has been with us as a salaried doctor since last September. She has a particular interest in sexual health – contraception and sexually transmitted infection and participates in the ever growing sexual health clinics at the practice. She is also interested in teaching and will soon be taking he GP Trainers course in order to share in teaching responsibilities of the practice.

Dr Rashid is well known to many of our patients, having been a GP Registrar with the practice until April 2007. We welcome him back as a Partner working initially 4 days a week until August when he will be available for consultations every day. Haroon has clinical interests in psychiatry , urology and men’s health and like Kerry has a higher qualification in sexual health

GP Registrar

Sunday 27th of April 2008

Dr Raghunathan has returned to us after a year training in various specialties at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. Sunita is very much part of the practice and is available for consultations every weekday. As part of her training over the next 12 months she will be undertaking some video consulting work which is needed for her assessments. Please do ask her if you have any questions about the GP training or her GP Trainer, Dr Liz Nyholm.

Nurse Practitioner

Sunday 27th of April 2008

We are also delighted to welcome Sister Sue Francis who joins us from her most recent post as Nurse Manager of Birmingham Walk in Centre. Sue has all the attributes of a highly experienced former practice nurse who has gained experience working without doctors in the fast moving Walk in Centre in the basement of Boots. She is able diagnose and manage all minor ailments and has wide experience in asthma, sexual health, heart disease and the other chronic conditions that form the background to general practice services. She is able to prescribe independently of the doctors and is a much needed addition to our team. Her main role at this stage is to develop the urgent care reception and management of patients who present for treatment at the surgery with acute conditions. She will be undertaking this role initially with the support of the duty doctor but as she grows to understand our particular practice operations she will be the first point of contact for patients wishing to consult a clinician at the surgery.

Omnia Patient Scores a Century!

Sunday 10th of February 2008

Our oldest patient Annie celebrated her 100th birthday on 02/02/2008. Dr Brown and I ( Ann Parnaby) went to see her at her home. She was an inspiration to us both. We asked her the secret but she just said hard work and in fact there was no secret. She told us that she had worked in the local bakery until she was ninety. Annie told us a few little stories, one was about her relationship with the house she now lives in. Annie came to live in the house when she was twelve months old. She moved from the house when she got married then moved back to care for her father. So ninety nine years long their relationship. Annie said she knew every brick in the house. I will never moan about my health again. [Ann Parnaby, Feb 08]

Extension Work Update

Sunday 10th of February 2008

Patients and friends of the practice will notice our rising structure. Our new extension is growing fast.  To date the progress has been impressive with just a few days lost to the weather.  Never the less we have now got the ground floor concrete base laid and the first floor base. The Bricklayers have laid up to the damp course all the way around the building. They have also laid the bricks half way up the side of the building where the pharmacy will be situated. You can really imagine what it will look like now and get a good feel for the size of building. The semi circular part at the front is a nice feature as this is in different colour brick and will a great focal point.  We will keep you updated as the structure changes from week to week.  We also have a display board in the waiting area that we are building as the structure progresses.

Sexual Health at Omnia

Saturday 19th of January 2008

We are pleased to let you know that we have expanded the number of clinics in response to demand from patients who may be registered with us for all services but who may have another GP and just come to the surgery for the more specialist sexual health service that we offer.

Clinics are staffed by women doctors and nurses and now run from 2:30 – 6:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays and from 2:30 to 5:30 on Thursday afternoons. If you are unable to come during the clin ic then please mention this to the receptionist that you need a ‘sexual health appointment’ and she will book you in at another time. Clinic appointments are particularly useful if you wish to have a coil or an implant fitted as two clinicians are needed for these procedures. At other times it may not be possible to meet all you needs in a single appointment. Find out more about sexual health at omnia here.
